This weekend my St Louis Buddy Betsy came into town. She was there to celebrate defending her dissertation and now she is officially known as DR BETSY!!!
The weekend started off with some homemade sushi. I followed the recipes and instructions from Alton Brown as always made my own modifications. I would say that if you have ever been interested in making you own sushi DO IT!! It is definitely worth the try. I bought the ingredients to make tuna, salmon, and California rolls. We ended up getting crazy and adding in ingredients like strawberries, cream cheese, and Travis even braved banana, that was not anyone’s favorite!!
I wish I had taken pictures because you could definitely tell the progression as we started getting better at making the rolls. I am going to have to go ahead and toot my own horn and say this might be the best sushi I have ever had. The only thing that makes the restaurant sushi better is they have those amazing sauces, which I am going to look into making next time.
After sushi we drank champagne and got ready to go out. We went to Cuba Libre which wasn’t quite hoppin enough for us but had a great mojito, The Old Monk which was too crowded, and The Porch which ended up being quiet but we were ready to get our drink on so we stayed. The Porch had good food and cool, funky drinks that were very tasty. The best part is instead of mints in the grab bowl as you are leaving there are Starbursts. Nothing like some good nostalgia to cap off a fun evening.
Saturday we got our fill of Guitar Hero in the morning, ate homemade Chicken Pot Pie for lunch and then we went and got mini facials. Unfortunately because I cannot tell the difference between tingling and burning my face was red for about three hours. After a visit with my folks we got pedicures, did some shopping in Southlake Town center and we to Duke’s Roadhouse and Cowboys Arlington that night. Cowboys was full of ugly girls that thought they were cute and cute guys that would rather hang out with each other than ask the few beautiful ladies to dance. Needless to say, there was a lot of drinking going on.
After my other girlfriend Marcy effectively taught Betsy how to change locations until she was dizzy we took off.
Due to the time change and, um, heavy sleeping, we overslept for a massage appointment but were still able to get in a full hours worth of relaxation and pampering. Ahhhh… it was needed.
Travis made us a fabulous meal, then homemade donuts for dessert then we had to see Betsy off.
Finally after some rest I went to my monthly girls dinner and enjoy lots of lasagna and girl talk.
Needless to say I slept very hard last night.
